Rule Of Thirds

The rule of thirds is an essential photography technique. It can be applied to any subject to improve the composition and balance of your images. The rule of thirds is important because when you are capturing an image you want to make sure the focus of your image is placed correctly.

The photographer captured this image at a beach somewhere, using landscape instead of portrait the photographer placed the rock that is coming out of the water on the left side. While looking at this image you will notice the rock first since it stands out the most.

In this photo that I took I was on a boat on a lake. I turned my phone so it was landscape instead of portrait, and found that it looked better this way because the lake and the dog were both in the shot. The dog is the focal point of the image being placed on the right side. After you see the dog you have a beautiful nature scene to look at.
This photo was taken in Charlevoix, MI on the beach, it is an image of the light house by the beach. I chose to include this photo because I loved the color of the water and how the red from the light house pops next to the blue water. The focal point of this photo is mainly the light house, but also the walkway leading to the light house, taking up most of the right half of the image.

This is a photo of the upper falls at Tahquamenon falls, MI. I chose this photo because its main focal point is the waterfall, but you also see the trees and water leading your eyes all over the image. This image was captured in landscape as well as the others. I wanted the waterfall to be included while capturing the light coming in from the top right corner and the trees that follow the river.
